Dublin to Cairo Road Trip
This trip is so difficult to plan...
Getting the ferry from Wexford
to Cherbourg, France ,then driving through France and all the way down to the
toe of Italy where I get a ferry to Sicily and another ferry to Tunisia…(
because of the recent unrest in Tunisia, driving alone will be a lot more
dangerous ). The next challenge is entering Lybia, this requires visas, transit
visas, desert passes, you have to have a tour guide arranged to meet you at the
border and he stays with me till I exit into Egypt. The Licence plates on the
van have to be changed for Libyan one`s, road tax, insurance and health
insurance have to be in place prior to entry. And it’s pretty much the same
procedure in Egypt. As there are virtually no ferries from Egypt back to
mainland Europe…with the exception of one new crossing from Alexandra to Venice
which I’m told is due to begin early this year…failing that, I’ll have to return
the way I came. So I guess this will be an interesting one! Apart from the
hassle of getting there and back…the rewards should be amazing!!
Trip Update:
Unfortunately the Dublin to Cairo Trip that was planned for spring of 2011 had to be cancelled due to recent upset in Libya, Egypt and Tunisia. As soon as things settle down in these areas I will give it another go.
