My name is Chris O`Hara, born in 1970 and reared in Artane, Dublin where I went to St.Davids primary and secondary schools up to 1987.Did a 13 week basic cookery skills course with Cert before going on to Cathal Brougha Streets Dublin College of Catering for the next 3 years. Left Ireland for Yorkshire, England where I was the head Chef of Ampleforth College. From there to Jersey, The Channel Islands as second Chef of the Pommes Dòr hotel, then returning to Ireland in 1992 to work in some of the hotels and restaurants of Dublin city. So in 1994 I decided I was ready to set up my first restaurant and went on to develop a chain of food franchises over the next 5 years.
After visiting Canada a number of times throughout the nineties, I fell in love with Toronto and its surrounding areas and sent in an application to emigrate. Moved over in 1999 and worked in a 400 seated restaurant as their executive Chef. After a while in Toronto I was approached by one of the local TV stations to do cooking demos on their morning show and went on to do similar shows and some TV commercials.
Returned to Ireland again in 2003 where I leased a well known Irish bar and restaurant for the following 4 years while setting up a sauce production and distribution company to the catering trade.
Then the recession hit Ireland in a bad way, and as always they seem to hit this sector first. So at the tender age of 40, i`ve decided to change direction and combine my two great passions....travel and photography.
